John started his working life with a five-year spell in a ‘top six’ accountancy firm, specialising in computer audit. He then spent 20 years in a variety of roles within a national healthcare distribution and retail group. This is a fast moving customer focused business, highly dependent on IT; also a major provider of IT systems to retail and hospital pharmacy. John worked in financial management before initiating and then leading a team operating at the interface of the business, its customers and its IT provider, focusing on achieving improved business performance and customer service through delivery of cost effective computer and information systems. For the last 10 years, John has worked as a consultant alongside his other activities and interests. His consultancy work has continued to focus on finance and business systems issues. He holds several governance roles in the not for profit sector.

John has always tried to take a holistic approach to business, recognising that financial systems must serve the business – not the other way round – and that effective and motivated people are always at least as important as technology in the development and operation of effective business processes.

John’s experience and personality enable him to work comfortable with people from all functions and at all levels of seniority. He has considerable experience of building, managing and facilitating multi-disciplined teams.
